“I think what we’re seeing – despite the Executive Order – is that there is still a fair amount of disconnect between what a supply chain does conceptually and what it actually does in real life.”

– Mike Griswold is the Vice President of Research at Gartner

Mike Griswold is the Vice President of Research at Gartner, specializing in retail with a particular focus on forecasting and replenishment. He is responsible for Gartner’s annual Top 25 Supply Chain ranking and joins Supply Chain Now on a monthly basis to discuss the latest in retail supply chains from an analyst’s perspective.

Supply chains have gotten a lot of attention over the last year, but in Mike’s opinion, most people still don’t have a clear understanding of how they work. As he pointed out, “If we look at leading organizations today, how they define a supply chain is much, much broader than just having some buildings and having some trucks or having some ships. It is about how do I understand and manage demand and supply? How do I facilitate internal and external collaboration around demand and supply?”

In this conversation based on a Supply Chain Now livestream, Mike answers questions from Co-hosts Greg White and Scott Luton about:

· The new Executive Order designed to better understand and address risk in private industry

· The sudden worldwide focus on the semiconductor chip shortage, and how that is affecting several industries

· How he expects the retail supply chain and retail customer experience to change in the aftermath of the pandemic
