Supply Chain Now Radio – Episode-241

“What we’re finding is companies that embrace disruption, that recognize disruption as the new normal, those companies are succeeding. Supply Chain Now Radio – Episode-242

“It is really the large retailers that are driving all the volume into the networks, but everyone is being penalized. I question the how fair it is to the people that are just shipping their normal volumes. They’re not really bogging down the networks; they’re just shipping what they ship.” – John Haber, CEO of Spend Management Experts   2019 was by no means a simple or easy year for supply chain managers or logistics providers. From the impact of tariffs to Amazon’s role in the shifting home delivery landscape, there wasn’t a dull moment. In this conversation, Supply Chain Now Radio Host Scott Luton welcomes back John Haber, CEO of Spend Management Experts, for part 3 of the Transportation Trends series. In part 1 of the series, John talked about FedEx’s rates for 2020, and in part 2 he did the same for UPS. In this episode, John will describe the broader trends he saw in 2019 and look forward to what we can all expect in 2020.   John wraps up this 3-part series by: Comparing and contrasting the different carriers’ peak seasons and changing delivery surcharges Discussing how the lack of competition between carriers in the US…

Supply Chain Now Radio – Episode-245

“So for all of my young people out there, stay off your cells. You don’t need to snap or tweet out and stuff while you’re at your desk. Right. You know, do that on your free time. If you’re bored, if you have run out of work, go and ask for more. Do something to contribute to the workplace, not to just keep yourself occupied.” – Tandreia Bellamy, VP of Industrial Engineering, UPS Global Freight Forwarding   Tandreia Bellamy has worked her way up through the ranks at UPS, starting as a supervisor while she was in college and eventually becoming the Vice President of Industrial Engineering, UPS Global Freight Forwarding. She provides a lot of insight about the approaches she used on that journey, but it mostly comes down to incredibly hard work, having a clear vision about her career, and making the most of every step along the way. In this interview, Tandreia discusses a wide-ranging set of topics with Supply Chain Now Radio Co-hosts Scott Luton and Greg White:   Why our approach to technology is more important than any specific technology on its own Why the best leaders get in the trenches with their people and…

Supply Chain Now Radio – Episode-247

“Supply chain professionals know they should collaborate with their suppliers, but they don’t know how common it isn’t. I would estimate that fewer than a third of the companies we deal with actually have active embedded supplier projects as part of their culture. It’s an opportunity to thrive in an ever more competitive environment.” – Rod Sherkin, President of ProPurchaser   Most companies recognize the importance of collaborating with suppliers. Collaboration can open the door to increased market share through innovation and reduced risk. But valuing collaboration and making it happen with the right suppliers are two very different things. In his usual practical application-driven style, ProPurchaser President Rod Sherkin takes Supply Chain Now Radio host Scott Luton through three recommended steps for improving supplier collaboration. They include finding the right kind of suppliers, choosing appropriate projects and successfully carrying them out. In addition to describing the three steps in further detail, Rod Sherkin provides advice such as: It is rare that procurement knows as much about a supplier’s materials as the supplier themselves. When selecting supplier collaboration partners, use this rule of thumb: select a supplier for whom your company represents at least 5% of revenue Ask yourself whether…
