WEBINAR: Building an Antifragile Supply Chain: Dr. Schär’s Climb to Inventory Excellence

Headquartered in Italy, Dr. Schär leads the market in gluten-free foods, offering a wide range of products for special dietary needs. With over 1,750 employees globally, the company operates 18 sites in 12 countries, boasting 12 production plants and 26 distribution warehouses, delivering to over 100 countries worldwide.

During the Covid Crisis, Dr. Schär faced considerable demand and supply variability. The supply chain team at Dr. Schär was able to thrive in the midst of this uncertainty thanks in part to the digital supply chain transformation that had just been completed. With all the supply chain planning activities digitized with ToolsGroup, and with the help of the advanced machine learning and probabilistic capabilities within the platform, the team was able successfully plan sales forecasts, fulfillment, and replenishment for every SKU at every location, along with rough and finite capacity planning.

With the redesign of the Supply Chain Planning process Dr. Schaer was able to increase order fill rates by 1.5%, improve forecast accuracy by 3%, and enhance freshness upon shipment by 1.8%. Despite a larger product mix, heightened variability, and increased volumes, Dr. Schär has managed to optimize their inventory performance.

We will delve into the strategies employed by this esteemed Italian pioneer in gluten-free foods, as they revolutionized their production planning and distribution processes to thrive while facing intense supply and demand uncertainty.

Can AI be the Unexpected Ally for Demand Planners?

Today’s ecosystem is fraught with volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (vuca) brought on by 2+ years of COVID, the war in Ukraine and multiple socio-political factors. Demand Planners carry the huge responsibility to navigate their organization through these difficult times but are left with traditional tools, starting from the assumption that the past will repeat itself. However, research conducted over the past two years indicate that demand forecasting investments made in AI-based platforms can return up to 6 times greater benefits over investments made in traditional planning systems.   This raises a few questions: Should planners autonomously embrace these new technologies to guide their organization through change? What changes can AI bring to an organization’s planning environment? How will it impact demand planning roles, and will humans be able to stay in control?   In this webinar, experts from Garvis will discuss this topic together with Robert Byrne, the inventor of “Demand Sensing”. They will bring more clarity to these questions and talk about the potential behind a new generation of AI planning solutions.
